The Music Math Art and Science Electronic Book

– music, math, art, science electronic book

Inspired by the work of my mum, Maria Montessori and Munari, and stimulated by my personal interest in building novel tangible interactions, and children, I decided (after prototyping the electronic pop-up piano) to go on with building few other pages to complete a little book which I gave as a birthday present to my 6 years old niece Matilde.

The Music, Math, Art and Science Electronic Book contains 4 pages that treat subjects like Music, Maths, Arts and Science and I thought it to be an inspiring introduction to the first year of Primary School that my niece will start this September.

The book contains movable parts and uses the electrical capacitance of the human body and other sensors made with paper, to activate sounds and lights.

The pages have been done using recycled materials that I collected during these years in London (paper, fabrics, LEDs, resistors, wires, foil paper, glue, cardboards) and it's powered by 2 Arduinos Diecimila, one that controls the paper Pop-up Piano and the other for the Arts and Science Page. The Math page on the contrary runs autonomously with x2 3V cell batteries. The two Arduinos run with x2 9V batteries.
